Doggie Depot, in Winchester, is a small boutique style daycare nestled in the Virginia Valley about an hour outside of DC. As a certified dog trainer, specializing in the fear free method, Owner Laura Schleef has given her daycare a homey feel. Her small but mighty team ensures every interaction their pet clients experience is healthy for both their mind and body.

A commitment to giving back to the canine community is strong at Doggie Depot. There is always a donation drive or community event in support of canines in need visible. Canine blood donation is a personal project for Laura. Back when Doggie Depot first opened in 2017, she had the opportunity to work with her border collie mix to become a blood donor. However, starting and running her daycare took over her time and she couldn’t stay active with it.

You cannot imagine my excitement when we were able to become a partner with NAVBB and help supply blood through our community this year,” Laura shared. Though her original donor pup is now not eligible to donate due to age, she is thrilled to be able to make the opportunity available to all her clients and staff. “[W]e now have an average of 13 dogs, (both daycare attendees and dogs in our local community), each month who participate in our blood donation collection! We have even more registered to be donors, our community has really come together to help other dogs.”

“While there are many benefits to owners for the blood donation process, our community is really proud of the dogs they are able to help. We are so thankful we can be a partner and help in any way!”

-Laura Schleef, Owner at Doggie Depot
