Pender Pet Retreat, of Dulles, VA, is a Veterinarian Owned and operated facility as an extension to the Pender Veterinary Center in Fairfax. Opened in 2007, Pender Pet Retreat was created to find a loving home to board dogs away from the sick and injured.

Pender Pet Retreat joined the NAVBB partnership program in November of 2023.

Their philosophy to be able to be there for pets whenever care was needed, regardless of the time of day, has spurred their desire to join the NAVBB partnership program. “As a pet resort founded by veterinarians, we understand the critical importance of K9 blood donation. Once we heard about the mission of NAVBB and met the amazing team who help save lives through blood donation, we were all in!” says Ruth Faulker, CPACO of Penter Pet Retreat. She further added that “the reasons for choosing to partner with NAVBB for us were many – the mission is lifesaving, the team is professional and great to work with, and the benefits to the pups who donate (free yearly bloodwork and exam, and Simparica Trio each month they donate) – all made our decision to partner with them a no-brainer.”

As a facility that offers a wide variety of options for their clients, creating an opportunity to expand the knowledge and awareness of the need of canine blood donation has been an incredible asset. According to Ruth, “A shocking amount of people don’t even know [canine blood donation] exists! We hope NAVBB and our partnership can help change this narrative.”

“We take immense pride in the awareness we can help foster within the pet community regarding the significance of blood donation in saving lives. Organizing blood drives outside traditional veterinary settings enables us to reach a broader section of our community. The more outreach and awareness we can help provide, the more K9 lives can be saved.”
